FAQ’s + Prep

  1. Where are you located?

My in-home studio is located just outside of cold lake, AB.

  2. What should my family and I wear to our family session?

Keep it simple. I always advise clients to dress in similar tones without being too matchy. Wearing Neutrals with a pop of colour is always a nice touch. Crazy patterns, many different colour combos, and writing/logos are a big no-no as it can cause unnecessary distractions to the overall image. Please remove all hair elastics and watches off wrists, too.

  3. If I’m expecting, when should I schedule my maternity session?

I suggest booking between 30-34 weeks. This way you can show off your beautiful bump without being too uncomfortable.

  4. When should I book my newborn session?

I recommend booking as soon as possible to reserve your spot. I only accept so many due dates a month to ensure availability and maintain flexibility for baby’s actual arrival.

  5. When is the best time to photograph a newborn?

The ideal time to shoot is between 7-14 days after birth, give or take a few days.

  6. How long does a full newborn session last? And what do you do in that time?

I allow 2-4 hours for these sessions because babies need breaks to eat and get settled again. I also include sibling and family shots in this time. Each newborn session will vary slightly but I generally do a variety of beanbag poses and 1-2 different prop shots before moving on to the family portion.

  7. Do I need to bring anything to my newborn session?

No, I provide everything needed for these photos; however, I do ask that you bring food if you aren’t breastfeeding and a pacifier. You can find more information on this in the prep guide below.

Prep Guide For Newborns

This guideline was created to ensure that you get the most out of your newborn session. Not only will you receive beautiful images but it makes my job easier when I need to settle and pose your baby. They are as follows:

  • Baby should be kept awake and stimulated (tummy time, bath time, etc.) for one hour leading up to the session and fed just before leaving the house. This ensures baby is nice and sleepy.

  • please dress baby in loose fitting clothing so he/she can be easily undressed and there are no lines or creases on the body.

  • If mom is breastfeeding, try not to introduce any new foods within 24 hrs. of the shoot.

  • Lastly, please bring a pacifier even if you haven’t introduced one yet. It really helps to calm baby and allows the session to run more quickly and smoothly.
